1982年マレーシア、ペナン島生まれ。観客を引き込みその多角的な可能性を感じさせる 彼女の作品は、彼女が自分を取り巻く環境に対して感じたことや体験に基づくものである。様々な媒体を音や視覚の要素と組み合わす彼女の作品の独自性を展示期間中じっくりと堪能できる。フォレストに毎日通うちょっと変わった彼女は、その代わりに会場に毎日立ち寄ってくれるだろう。OPEN GATEベーシック作家の一人。
Hoo Fan Chon 符 芳俊

1982年生まれ、ペナン島ジョージタウンを拠点に活動。 文化が変換される過程を探究しており、文化が変換され吸収される過程で思いもよらない矛盾する形で取り残されたものに関心がある。現在はジョージタウンに拠点を置くアーティスト集団Run Amok Galleryを創設、メンバーの一人として活動している。街と人、場所と人をつなげていくジョージタウンの最重要人物。OPENGATEベーシック作家の一人。

1981年クアラルンプール生まれ、ペタリンジャヤとクアラルンプールに在住し活動。作品を通してユーモアや風刺、視覚的な詩の世界を意欲的に探索する学際的なアーティストである。OPEN GATEでは6月7日のイベントから参加し、その後毎日会場で今回の為の特別な作品制作に挑む。
13日、14日のイベントのフィーチャリングゲスト作家。「ページボーイ・カットのぽっちゃりした中国少年」や「ひとりハーレムシェイク」との呼び名のある彼を会場で見つけてほしい。

1978年マレーシア生まれ。 絵画や細密に描かれたドローイング、オーブンで加熱し彩色を施した粘土彫刻など、様々な手法を用いて作品を制作している。 数々の受賞歴がありがなら非常にとらえどころのないアーティスト。今回Hoo Fan Chonの呼びかけでOPEN GATEに参加、作品のみの提供となるが、会期中彼の作品は他の作家によって変貌していく可能性もある。

クアラルンプールに拠点を置くインディペンデント・キュレーター。国際交流基金(日本)の「Run & Learn:New Curatorial Constellations(走りながら考える:新しいキュレーター像を求めて)」に選抜され、「Making Space: We Are Where We Arenʼt」をクアラルンプールで企画。OPEN GATE ライターとして参加。6月14日のライターズトークセッションに出演。OPEN GATE 会期中盤のKLとジョージタウンの交差する期間のレポートを担当。
樋口勇輝 Yuki Higuchi

2011年茨城大学卒業。各所で各種を習得しつつ映像制作を軸に活動。手段として映像を扱うものの、興味は映像にとどまらず、展覧会の制作現場でも重宝される様々なスキルを持つ。OPEN GATEでは映像記録を担当。リサーチ初期からのメンバーである彼の視点で撮影されていく映像は会期中も中継されていく予定。

大学在学中から、映像作品を発表し始める。彼女の作品は、人間の基本的な体験やアイデンティティに対する疑問を熟考のうえ展開されている。
今回の会場となるHin Bus Depotのマネージャー兼共同キュレーターを務めている。 最終日の21日には、展示会期中ずっとOPEN GATEに立ち会ことになる彼女の視点からの映像作品を発表、また16日のサイレントムービーイベントの映像も彼女のセレクトによるもの。今回のOPEN GATEの影の立役者。
Sachiko M
Musician
テスト用の信号音(サインウェーブ)を使った電子楽器を演奏し世界的に活躍する前衛即興音楽家。サウンドインスタレーション、写真作品の発表、歌の作曲もこなす。Asian Sounds Research プロジェクトディレクター。OPEN GATEディレクター、キュレーター。16日のサイレントムービーイベントでは即興音楽を最小限のサウンドシステムで演奏する。もちろん毎日会場におります。

He founded improvisational electric ensemble SJQ in 1999, and performed with Trombone and computer generated music. Recently, he had started creating installation works for the exhibition, mainly using originally invented electric devices. Participating as main artists of OPEN GATE, he is actively involved in Asian SoundsResearch principal members. Yonago emits his own unique aura wherever he goes, is expected to be in the venue whole time during the exhibit, almost like a custodian.
Yoshihito Mizuuchi
Contemporary Artist
Born in Hokkaido in 1978, Mizuuchi is performing as well as exhibiting at home and abroad. He operates an independent label “Mrs. Triangle”, and runs a same name standing bar in his studio. He is one of the main artists of OPEN GATE. Like his always packed bar, people gather around him.

Her works draw in the audiences, make them sense the multiple and possible meanings. it is based on what she experienced and how she reacted to the environment surrounding her. During OPEN GATE, visitors have privilege to fully enjoy her world that combines various medium with the elements of sound and visual. She has unusual habits of going into the woods every day; however, during the exhibition period, she will show up at the venue instead. one of main artists of OPEN GATE.
Hoo Fan Chon

Born in 1982 and now based in George Town, He practice involves investigating the process of cultural translation. He is currently the founder and one of the members of artist collective - Run Amok Gallery based in George Town. He is the most important person in George Town to connect to own and people , as well as site and people. He is one of the main artists of OPEN GATE.

Started by Saya and Takashi Ueno in 1996, the band uses unprocessed notes as base sound, interacts with co-performers and the space itself. Still, their music strikes its own presence, and is also the symbolic presence of OPEN GATE. They will perform in the Opening Events on 6th and 7th June as featuring guest musicians. The first “gate” will be open by their “sounds”. This is their first performance in Malaysia.
Gabija Grusaite

Gabija Grusaite is Lithuanian born author and curator currently based in Penang, Malaysia. She takes on a role of organising three-talk sessions, in addition to follow up OPEN GATE for the entire exhibition period. The report from her points of view using visual installations, poetry expression and storytelling experimentally, shall be inimitable.

Born in KL, He lives and works in Petaling Jaya and KL. He is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice demonstrates confident exploration of humour, satire, and visual poetics. He will join in OPEN GATE from the event on 7th, and from then onward he starts creating the special works in the venue every day.

Minoru hatanaka
Curator
As a musician himself resides in Tokyo, he has an open perspective that goes beyond the framework of installations and concerts. Participates OPEN GATE as a writer, he will be appearing at Writer's Talk Session on 7th June, following up the start of OPEN GATE.
Mieko Matsumoto
Photografer
Mieko is a photographer with her own unique style, applying photo shooting and writing on the themes of trip and human being. She has disclosed works regarding “Daily life, life and death”. For OPEN GATE, she will be photographic recording the entire show; the Archive Photobook is planned to be issued. Photographs and text through her viewpoint shall go beyond ordinary archiving process, and bear new work of arts.

HASA produces works in a variety of media, from paintings and meticulously crafted drawings to painted oven baked clay sculptures. Even though he has given so many numbers of awards, he is extremely elusive as an artist. His participation in OPEN GATE, in response to Hoo Fan Chon’s call, is limited to show his work at the gallery. However, there is a possibility that Hasa’s work to be further developed with other artists involvement during the exhibition.
Ong Jo-Lene
Independent curator
Jo-Lene is an independent curator based in Kuala Lumpur. She was recently selected to participate in The Japan Foundationʼs “Run & Learn: New Curatorial Constellations” in which she was awarded a grant to curate “Making Space: We Are Where We Arenʼt” in Kuala Lumpur. Participates OPEN GATE as a writer, she also appears on Writer’s Talk event on 14th June. She will be reporting on the middle session of OPEN GATE, where KL and George Town artists intersect.
Yuki Higuchi
Video Photografer
Yuki Higuchi graduated from Ibaraki University in 2011, and has since gained various experiences at various places while evolving around his skills at filmmaking. Although dealing with the projected image as his main means of expression, his interest is not limited to video production. In OPEN GATE, he is going to participate as a video recorder. With a view through a member from the early stage of the research, his video is planned to relay during the exhibition period.
Kok Siew-wai
Improvised Vocalist
KOK Siew-Wai is an improvised vocalist, video artist and independent artist-organizer from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Siew-Wai has a deep passion for the avant-garde, improvisational and experimental arts.
In Silent Movie Night on 16th June, she performs with Sachiko M and Tadashi Yonago as featuring guest. This night will be the experimental night challenging the boundary of sound and silence.

Ee Yan started showcasing video works when she was still in college. Her works revolve around her contemplation on questions of identity and fundamental human experiences.
She is manager,co-curator of Hin Bus Depot. On the last day of OPEN GATE, video works made from her perspectives of attending the show throughout the entire period will be exhibited. Moreover, the films on Silent Movie Night on 16th will be selected by her. She is the driving force behind the shadow for OPEN GATE.
Sachiko M
Musician
Sachiko M is an internationally avant-garde musician who is known for her performances with electric instruments utilising sinewaves. she has expanded her repertoire to include sound installation, song composing, and photography works. She is the Project Director of Asian Sounds Research, as well as the Director and Curator of OPEN GATE. on 16th, performing improvised music with minimal sound systems. You can find her certainly in the venue every day.

Having points of view from both art and music side, Hashimoto is a key figure in Osaka art scene. Participating OPEN GATE as a writer, she is going to appear in Writer's Talk Session on 21st June, and will follow up the conclusion of OPEN GATE, as a final writer.

Otomo Yoshihide

Creating a wide range of music independently and consistently, Otomo’s scope of activities extend across the globe. He is currently the Artistic Director of ENSEMBLES ASIA project, Japan Foundation Asia Center. He will appear on the closing event for OPEN GATE as a pièce de résistance, which takes place on 20th and 21st June. This is going to be his very first performance in Malaysia.
