日本とアジア（ASEAN地域）において音を中心とした新しい表現や実験を紹介し合うリサーチを重ね、音楽と美術両方の特徴を生かし、その「あいだ」にある未知なる表現を発見し生み出してゆくリサーチプロジェクト。現地の人々、場所と共に新たな表現を丁寧に追求していき、またその過程そのものをアーカイブ化している。2014年マレーシア・ペナン島にてリサーチを開始、2015年6月、第1回展覧会「OPEN GATE」を同地にて開催。同年11月マレーシア・クアラルンプール、カンボジア・プノンペン、シェムリアップにて第2期リサーチを実施。2016年あいちトリエンナーレで第2回展覧会「OPEN GATE 2016」を開催。2017年第3期リサーチ、カンボジア・バッタンバンを実施、9月札幌国際芸術祭2017にて「OPEN GATE 2017」と、これまでのプロジェクトの活動の全記録を展示した「OPEN GATEの部屋」を同時に開催した。

Asian Sounds Research is a research project that continues to research and introduce new expressions and experiments that revolve around sound in Japan and Asia (ASEAN countries). Making the best use of the characteristics of both music and art, we discover and create unknown ways of expression that are in between those two fields. We carefully pursue new expressions with the local people and venues, and we also archive that process. We started our research at Penang Island, Malaysia in the year 2014, and also held our first exhibition OPEN GATE there. Our second term research was carried out in November of the same year at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, Cambodia. We held the second OPEN GATE 2016 exhibition at the Aichi Triennale 2016. We carried out our third term research at Battambang, Cambodia, and held OPEN GATE 2017 and OPEN GATE Archive Room, which exhibits the entire documentation of our projects, in September at the Sapporo International Art Festival 2017.
